If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest, you may have stumbled upon the “mason jar salad” craze – in other words, people eating salads out of glass jars. At first glance, it looks a bit silly!
But there’s actually a method to this trend! Glass jars take up little room in a fridge and don’t easily fall over. The biggest perk is that you get a full fresh serving of veggies without all the prep work that normally goes into a salad – a huge time-saving tip when you’re on the road!
You can layer your ingredients in such a way that nothing will go soggy or mushy. When you’re ready to eat your salad, just shake it up (with the lid still on), open the lid, and dig in! You can customize this with whatever salad you prefer.
What You Need (for each serving):
- Mason jar
- Diced lettuce
- Diced veggies/fruit
- Salad dressing
- Paper towel
How It Works:
- Pour a serving of salad dressing on the bottom.
- Add the sliced veggies and fruit.
- Add the diced greens (as much as will fit in).
- Place a piece of paper towel over the greens, which will keep them from wilting.
- Put the lid on tight.
Pack all the jars into your RV fridge or cooler, and you’ve got fresh salads ready to go, no prep required!
